The Mars
Bar Race Series Scoring System Explained
Points are
allocated on a relative time difference basis where the first time the course
is run by a runner is counted as the best time until the second time when that
time is used but only if the time is less than the time taken the first time
and the difference is worked out with runners ranked in order of time
improvement except the first time which is a time trial where points are given
based on the time achieved that time with the fastest timed runner gaining most
points and others awarded in a sequentially downwards manner starting from
fifteen though this may change shortly.
If a runner takes part for the first time but it is not the time trial
then they score only one point but that time is used as a basis for the next
time so that the time differential can be worked out for all the other times.
Races are started with runners setting off at precisely calculated time
intervals derived from their best times but not everybody does this all of the
time even though they should do as it would be good if everybody finished at
the same time. For the time trial the start time intervals are taken from the
previous time the series was run which was possibly the runners’ best time then
but probably not their all-time best time at the time of the time trial. After
all the races have been run the points are added up and the one with the most
points wins the series. This system is currently under review and may be
replaced at some time by a new simplified system utilising a time differential ratio
method expressed as a percentage which may save time when working out results.
